Mark Lewis speaks at GDPR Made Easy workshop

Lodders’ Mark Lewis and Professor Richard Benham have recently hosted a workshop in Cheltenham to give local businesses an overview of the incoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Mark, alongside Professor Benham, founder of TheCyberClub, addressed members of local business club Circle 2 Success, advising on the new GDPR regulations coming into force in May next year. These new regulations will be the biggest shake-up of European privacy laws for 20 years, with marked changes to data protection obligations and increased sanctions for those who breach the new regulations. All organisations must be compliant by May 2018 and are advised to start making the required changes now in order to be fully prepared for the incoming legislation.

The event explained how the new regulations will have a great impact on all businesses, highlighting the importance of understanding your responsibilities early to avoid any sanctions in the future. Mark Lewis, head of Charity Law and GDPR specialist at Lodders, outlined the new regulations and highlighted key points for organisations to be aware of, whilst Professor Benham gave an overview and an action plan with advice on where to start and how best to prepare.
