Careers at Lodders

Career Progression

A number of our support staff have progressed their careers within the firm. Many of them have gone on to become fee earners. There are a number of ways this can be achieved. One route is to become a Legal Executive. Legal Executives are qualified lawyers, who work alongside solicitors. To become a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives you need to sit exams to gain ILEX Professional Qualification in Law. You also need five years' experience of working under the supervision of a solicitor. The first three years can be spent concurrently with your studies, but two of the five years must be spent after you have passed all your exams. The other way of becoming a fee earner is to develop into a paralegal. A paralegal is someone who has specialised training to assist lawyers. We encourage any of our secretaries who aspire to become a paralegal to enrol on the benchmark ILEX Paralegal Programme for Legal Secretaries. Whether our staff are happy in their existing role or seeking greater challenges, our philosophy is encourage them to tease out their varied talents.

A View From The Inside...

Various people around the firm have assisted me with studying parts of the course which are outside my own work and experience. I have had tremendous support from the firm and genuine interest from colleagues as to my progress and results. In my conversations with other students at the ILEX Tutorial College, I think that such support from an employer is quite unique.
