Careers at Lodders

Training

How will I find the atmosphere while training at Lodders? You will find the atmosphere at Lodders friendly, collegiate and facilitative. You may be working with assistants one minute and partners the next. What kind of work can I expect as a trainee? You will be carrying out tasks on other fee earners’ files as well as running your own. This will help you gain experience of more complex work, as well as allow you to learn how to run your own simple transactions and handle the demands of being the main point of contact for a client on a particular matter. How much supervision will I receive during my training contract? We strive to provide our trainees with a high level of supervision, while still allowing them independence to progress their experience. You will work under the supervision of a partner in each department, who will give you guidance and constructive feedback on your performance. All partners operate an “open-door” policy to help you feel comfortable asking for advice. We have a structured appraisal system to ensure that all trainees are kept informed of how they need to improve in their personal and career development. The supervision offered is first class and allows trainees to develop the confidence and skills they need to become the best lawyers they can be. What is Lodders’ approach towards retention of trainees? We aim to retain all trainees on qualification. We consider all of our trainees to be potential future partners and as such, offer them good career progression. In fact, two of our former trainees are now Associates. How flexible is the training at Lodders? The firm is happy to accommodate particular interests in planning your training programme, with a starting point of four six-month seats. The variety of seats is enviable, and now includes the option of a seat for three months at Self, the financial planning and advice company with which we have close links. You can visit their web site at www.selfadvice.com.
