Michael is one of the UK’s leading authorities on the law of Highways and Rights of Way. He gained invaluable experience and knowledge working for 20 years in local government, for four different Councils. His ultimate position was Chief Executive of the Surrey Heath Borough Council, where he helped to rebuild Camberley Town Centre. At Lodders, he concentrates on planning, highways, local government, compulsory purchase and compensation work and heads the Highways and Rights of Way team in the Commercial Property Department. Michael has both public and private sector clients. He has written the text book “Introduction of Highway Law” and contributes to a monthly law column for the Surveyor magazine and articles for the Rights of Way Law Review. He is also lectures widely and is Chairman of the Warwickshire Local Access Forum. Early in life, Michael travelled overseas as a voluntary service teacher, working in Ghana, West Africa. Having ignited an interest in providing a worthwhile contribution to civic life, Michael decided to become a solicitor in order to enter a career in local government. This is a passion that has remained with him to this day, for example, helping to win an important case in environmental law for the future of recycling. He is also active in supporting third world charities.
