Packed programme planned for Stratford’s Children’s Book Day

A day especially for children that is packed with award-winning authors, illustrators, great stories, an ‘enchanting’ puppet show, lantern making and plenty of fun, is set to be a page-turning final chapter at this year’s Stratford’s Literary Festival.

Sponsored by Lodders, Children’s Book Day is from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 3rd May, the final day of the Stratford-upon-Avon Literary Festival, with all activities at the Stratford Artshouse on Rother Street.

“Lodders is thrilled to be sponsoring Children’s Book Day again this year,” says Senior Partner, Martin Green.

“Encouraging children of all ages to read more books, expand their knowledge and learning, whilst having fun, is so important, and Lodders is very happy to support a day dedicated to this, as well as one which is also part of the town’s superb Literary Festival.

“This year’s programme is packed with some amazing activities, storytelling and entertainment, and the chance for children to meet a number of best-selling authors too.”

Children’s author and illustrator, Nick Butterworth, famous for books including ‘Thud!’, ‘The Whisperer’ and the ‘Percy the Park Keeper’ series, is amongst the writers taking part in Children’s Book Day.

Also taking part are Tracey Corderoy and Steve Lenton, known for their ‘Shifty McGifty’ and ‘Slippery Sam’ books, ‘Cakes in Space’ authors Sarah McIntyre and Philip Reeve, and AF Harrold, author of ‘Fizzlebert Stump’ and ‘The Girl Who Lifted Quite Heavy Things’.

The programme also includes a ‘How to make comics’ session with Neill Cameron, storytelling with Nikki Smedley, a Puppet Show by John Roberts and Puppetcraft, and Lantern Making with John Roberts.

The day will close with a workshop run by British contemporary artist Sara Huxley-Edwards, who was born in Warwickshire.

Don’t forget to book your tickets

Tickets cost £20 per child for events all day; £35 for two children and £15 for each subsequent child, or £5 per session. There is a £3 charge for adults attending events.

Celebrating its eighth year in 2015, The Stratford-upon-Avon Literary Festival runs from 25th April to 3rd May. Regarded as one of the most significant literary festivals in the UK, it is mixture of debate, ideas, celebrity author events and workshops at venues across the town. Alongside is a programme of education events in Stratford schools involving favourite authors, poets and illustrators, entertaining and inspiring children from 2 to 18 years old.
