International Divorce Disputes

As the world becomes more accessible, it is not uncommon for people to live and/or carry on business in foreign countries or to marry someone from another country. With this in mind, at Lodders, we specialise in international divorce disputes, to provide you with advice tailored to your specific circumstances which have an international element.

The most common concern in a divorce dispute with an international element is where proceedings should be issued. This is often referred to as “forum shopping”, as different countries have their own divorce laws, which can result in very diverse outcomes relating to financial matters on divorce. It is therefore important to consider the implications of choosing one jurisdiction over another, particularly as different countries have their own rules relating to disclosure of evidence and the power of the Courts to make various orders relating to finances on divorce.

Additionally, if you or your partner have any off-shore trusts or investments, you will need specialist advice as to how to address these elements in the context of your divorce.

At Lodders, we have the necessary expertise to guide you through a divorce with international elements.
