Work experience can help to develop your employability skills make career decisions. It can also help with the transition into college, apprenticeships, university and work.

It is your responsibility to get to and from the place of your work experience.
• You will need to think about how you will be getting to your work experience
• Understand the timetables of public transport and cost
• Think about any potential problems that may occur i.e. public transport strikes, road works
Lodders will pay for moderate up front costs of travel e.g. a travel pass for the week.
• Ask questions and show an interest
• Be committed and show enthusiasm
You will enjoy a week of immersive experience in all the areas we work in, timetabled across the week. This will include learning directly from our solicitors, group discussions, group activities, and completing legal tasks. The mornings will be focused on an area of law and the afternoons will either be with a legal team or focused on employability skills.
Before you start your work experience it’s a good idea to do some research to gain a basic knowledge of the company and to understand possible expectations of the employer. Please see below.

You need to take responsibility for your own Health & Safety and those around you. At the start of your work experience you will receive an induction which should include:
• A tour of the premises
• Fire procedures
• First aid arrangements
• Confirmation of your work hours and breaks
• Overview of what you will be doing during the week
• Introduction to members of staff
• Shown welfare facilities
You should ask questions to show interest and also be aware of positive and negative body language. Examples of positive body language are:
• Making eye contact
• Sitting up straight
• Paying attention
• Relaxed posture
• Keeping hands out of pockets
Examples of negative body language are:
• Staring
• Slouching
• Yawning
• Crossed arms and legs
• Looking at your watch
Your working hours will be 9:00am – 5:30pm Monday – Thursday and 9:00am – 5:00pm Friday.
Work experience is ‘learning experience’. Therefore, reflecting on this experience will allow you to consolidate what you’ve learnt, and you can apply this to your career planning.
