Landowners advised on 80 acre solar farm

Alastair Frew of Lodders acted for the landowners of Tolldish Hall Farm where a solar farm will be developed

Novus Renewable Services’ plans for a solar farm in Warwickshire have been approved by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

The 80 acre solar panel farm will be developed at Tolldish Hall Farm, North East of Aldermans Green, and will generate 25MW of electricity, which will be fed back to the grid and is sufficient to power over 7,000 homes.

Alastair Frew, partner and head of Lodders’ Business Property team, acted for the landowners who granted an option to the solar PV development energy company that will lease the land.

Of the solar farm, Alastair says: “It is excellent news that planning permission has been granted for the scheme at Tolldish Hall Farm, which will include solar panels with on-site batteries to store the energy generated during sunny periods when there is surplus supply and insufficient demand.

“It was a pleasure to advise the landowners on this diversification strategy which provides them with an additional revenue stream, whilst green, renewable energy is generated for the benefit of the local area. Indeed, schemes like this are key if the UK is to reach its net zero goal by 2050 and achieve its target to decarbonise the electricity grid by 2035.”

Powering local housing

The local plan for Nuneaton and Bedworth states that 14,000 new houses will be needed within the area between 2024 and 2039 meaning the new solar farm will be able to power over half of this planned housing.

The site has been carefully selected and designed through a detailed assessment process considering grid availability, heritage, landscape and amenity, ecology and environmental designations, access, and agricultural land quality.

As well as providing green electricity, enhancements to the site will contribute to a significant Biodiversity Net Gain whilst also improving soil condition and fertility.

Land development and property consultancy Mather Jamie helped to secure planning permission for the scheme.
