James is the Head of the Agricultural and Landed Estate team. He helps clients from the rural sector with all sorts of legal matters, often linked to land in some way. James will be the Conference Chairman.

Alex Robinson
Formerly director at Mopane Capital, chartered surveyor at Savills and a British Army Officer. A Partner of Moor Wood Farm, Alex is an experienced farmer in his own right and is implementing a whole-farm conservation and regenerative agricultural approach on the land. He is also a Co-Founder of Nature Capital and Director of Zulu Forest Sciences. At the Rural Conference, Alex will provide important insights into how landowners can identify opportunities and unlock value from natural capital baseline assets.

Facilitator of the new Farmer Cluster in the Cotswolds, which currently incorporates 100 farms and estates, Tim is also the CEO and Founder of Carbon Quester. Tim will discuss how landowners can achieve greater environmental outputs and gain personal benefits by working collectively.

This year’s theme is Mind the Gap: Navigating the New Agricultural Landscape. We will be exploring opportunities for farmers and landowners to access funding from both the private and public sectors, as they adapt to changes in the support regimes.
Please join us for the return of our annual Rural Conference at Lapstone Barn, where you’ll hear from four expert speakers, all operating at the forefront of diversification, natural capital, and environmental land management:
- Tim Field of North East Cotswolds Farmer Cluster will discuss how landowners can work collectively to deliver better environmental outputs and to secure enhanced reward in doing so. Tim is the founder and CEO of Carbon Quester, as well as facilitator of the new Farmer Cluster in the North East Cotswolds, which already includes 82,500 acres across 100 farms and estates.
- Alex Robinson of Nature Capital and Zulu Forest Sciences will give explain how landowners can establish a natural capital baseline, in order to identify opportunities and unlock value from these assets. Alex is a co-founder at Nature Capital, and director at Zulu Forest Sciences, in addition to being an experienced farmer.
- Richard Smith, senior farms manager of Daylesford Organic/JCB Farms will discuss the story of their growth and the development of the farming business over the last 35 years.
- Manjeet Kumari La, head of engagement at DEFRA will be updating us on the current funding available for farmers as part of the Environmental Land Management Schemes.
Our 2023 Rural Conference is a valuable event for farmers, landowners and their advisers, and also offers a great opportunity to catch up with friends from the rural sector and network with new professionals too.
The event starts at 1pm, with lunch provided. The conference itself will start promptly at 2pm, with a short break midway through, before finishing at 4.30pm. There will be refreshments afterwards for those able to stay on.
