Short bio:
I am a Partner in the Private Client team.
I joined Lodders in 2017. I specialise in complex estate and succession planning, with a particular focus on farmers, landowners, business owners and their families. Much of my work is with farming families, helping them navigate the practical, family and tax considerations involved in passing farms, land and family businesses to the next generation.
I advise on Wills, trusts and inheritance tax, with particular expertise in agricultural and business succession. My work includes the use of trusts, family investment companies and partnerships as part of wider estate and succession planning. I have extensive experience of inheritance tax planning for farming families and landowners, including the application of the Balfour principles and agricultural and business property relief to farming and diversified estates.
I am also a leading specialist in Land Pool Trusts and advise landowners on the tax and estate planning issues that arise when land is brought forward for strategic development, including associated trading structures.
I often act for several generations of the same family. This gives me a detailed understanding of the family, its assets and its longer-term plans, and allows me to provide continuity as circumstances change and wealth passes from one generation to the next.
I enjoy getting to know my clients, their families and their businesses. I will often visit clients at their home, business or farm, which helps me understand what matters to them and provide advice that works in practice. I work closely with clients’ accountants, land agents and financial advisers, as well as colleagues in our Agriculture, Strategic Land and Corporate teams, to provide joined up advice across their personal, family and business interests.
I am a past Chairman of the Kenilworth & District Agricultural Society, a past chairman and board member of Coventry & Warwickshire First, Under Sheriff of Warwickshire and a committee member of the Warwickshire Farmers Ball. I also act as a trustee of a local charity.
