Lodders to host inaugural Renewables Conference

The new conference promises to be a valuable event for landowners, land agents, and their advisors alike.

Speakers from across the renewables sector will provide real-life experiences and insights into industry trends, challenges, and opportunities for landowners and land managers at Lodders’ inaugural Renewables Conference.

The ‘Renewable energy: looking to the future’ event in Warwickshire will explore pathways into the world of energy generation, storage, and transmission.

The conference will take place from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm on 16 May 2024 at Merevale Hall in Atherstone, with kind permission from Merevale’s owner Sir William Matthew Dugdale.

Alastair Frew is head of Lodders’ Renewable Energy team and will Chair the conference. Of the event, he says: “We are entering an era of ongoing change for land management, as an increasing number of landowners are seeking to generate new income streams by exploring renewable energy options. Here at Lodders, we are guiding a rising number of landowners through the complex documentation required to create renewables schemes on their land, including solar PV developments, battery storage schemes, wind farms, or installing gas generators or anaerobic digestion equipment.

“Recognising that the renewables sector is a new and rapidly evolving area; we have brought together a strong line-up of speakers from a range of organisations to provide clear and practical advice and guidance on sector challenges and opportunities. This new conference promises to be a valuable event for landowners, land agents, and their advisors alike.”

The full line-up of speakers for the Renewables Conference is:

  • Simon Murrells of Innova Renewables, who will discuss how to identify what land to develop and how to put together a development
  • Nick Green of Savills, who will talk through identifying development land and property suitable for hosting energy projects and how to value this land
  • Hugh Taylor of Roadnight Taylor, who will discuss National Grid connection landowner feasibility studies and connection applications
  • Peter White of Gopsall Accountants, who will speak about how change in land use impacts tax position, important for succession planning
  • James Collier of Howkins and Harrison, who will provide an overview of the local renewables market

Simon Murrells adds: “The Innova team is excited to be taking part in Lodders’ upcoming Renewables Conference. It is a fantastic opportunity for us to discuss all aspects of the UK market from a developer’s perspective, and we’re very much looking forward to presenting on the project lifecycle from site identification through to operation.”
