50 minute target for first-time Stratford 10k runner

Lodders' Daniel Payne is training hard for his first ever Stratford 10k

Lifelong runner Daniel Payne is training hard for his first ever Stratford 10k and has his eyes set on crossing the finish line in ‘anything under 50 minutes’.

Daniel (pictured), who has worked for the Stratford 10k’s headline sponsor Lodders for 17 years, is running up to 40 miles each week as part of his training regime to prepare for the race on Sunday 4 September 2022.

No stranger to distance running races, Daniel completed the Rotary Shakespeare Marathon earlier this year in 4 hours 32 seconds, the 2021 Coventry Half Marathon in 1 hour 46 minutes, and the Birmingham Half Marathon 2021 in 1 hour 51 minutes.

Daniel is running the 10k as part of Lodders corporate team that includes returning runners Dan Macleod, Lydia Elvin, Maria Fitzgerald, Anna Turnell, experienced runners Mike Poole, Jane Senior and Jon Wood, and newbies Hilary Campton and Angela Howard.

Mental strength

“I love the simplicity of running,” Daniel says. “No specialist equipment is required – except a decent pair of trainers – it’s just you and your determination. I always feel better after a run, regardless of how reluctant I am to go out running in the first place! The mental strength required to persist and push through on long runs serves me well in other areas of life.”

Lodders’ Steven Baker, partner in the firm’s real estate team and seven-time Stratford 10k runner, adds: “The Stratford 10k is an important fixture on Stratford’s annual events calendar. We are looking forward to another great event, which the firm is honoured to have taken a lead role in as principal sponsor of every race since 2010.”

Stratford 10k runners

More than 700 runners are already entered into the 2022 Stratford 10k. As in previous years, all competitors will set off from the Shipston Road adjacent to the Recreation Ground at 9.30am. The race route will take them past many of Stratford’s famous landmarks, including the RSC Theatre, and finish at the bandstand.

With medals for all finishing runners there are prizes for the first three male and female finishers and the first over the line in each age group starting from 35 and going up in 10-year increments.

Runners must be a minimum 15 years old, and entry fees are £22 for running club members, and £24 for unaffiliated runners. There is a kids race in partnership with Marathon Kids UK that starts at the pavilion at 11.00am and finishes under the main race finishing arch.

Race organisers Tempo Events have selected The Time Out Group Stratford upon Avon as the event’s charity partner again this year. Based in South Warwickshire the charity aims to provide specialist support to children with disabilities and their families, helping them to access numerous family opportunities.
