Lodders quartet trek 23km in aid of dementia charity

They raised over £2,600 for Alzheimer’s Society.

Four members of staff at Lodders have completed a gruelling 6 hour walk across the Brecon Beacons in South Wales to raise over £2,600 for Alzheimer’s Society.

Ranked as being a “very tough” level trek by the charity, the challenging route saw the team ‘Lodders Plodders’ – made up of the firm’s Sharon CrosbyGemma Bryan, and Michael Brook – scale demanding terrain, steep steps, uneven ground, hair-raising ledges and conquer the 886 metre high Pen y Fan – the highest peak in South Wales – in six hours.

On completing the challenge, the team has fundraised £1,613, boosted by the Lodders Charitable Foundation that has generously added £1,000 to the fundraising pot, bringing their final total to £2,613.

“Completing the challenge was certainly no mean feat. As well as the physical tests that the route presented, we also had to contend with the weather being surprisingly warm. But there was great camaraderie with others on the trek and a really supportive atmosphere all round – plus the views were spectacular.

“Understanding what we were raising money for was ultimately our biggest motivation to keep going, and I couldn’t be prouder of the team for making it to the end – and all in one piece too!”

Sharon Crosby, associate in the private client team, added: “The challenge was extremely well organised by Alzheimer’s Society, with support arranged for the right places, such as mountain rescue on hand at the highest peak and plenty of food and beverages provided to give us a much-appreciated energy boost when needed!

Tackling dementia

“As the UK’s leading dementia charity, Alzheimer’s Society works to tackle dementia at every level through campaigning for change, funding research to find a cure, and supporting people living with dementia today. We are so thrilled to have raised a fantastic amount for such a well-deserving cause and want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored us. A special mention must be made to the Lodders Charitable Foundation for their substantial contribution of £1,000 to our final total.”

Alzheimer’s Society runs a number of sponsored walking events each year over a variety of breath-taking locations, with its Trek26 routes taking place across London, the Lake District and Stonehenge, as well as Brecon Beacons. Hundreds of participants across the UK take on the challenges and raise money together in a bid to help stop dementia in its tracks.
